Just not happy
09.27.03 (9:39 pm) [edit]
Not happy to be here, not happy to be away from Seattle, not happy to be away from DJ. Not happy. Trying to job and apartment hunt tonight. Just want something to sustain life so I can get my ass out there. Don't care much what. As long as it's legal, doesn't involve the involuntary wearing of a signboard, and won't give me cancer. :)
Visiting aunt and uncle tonight. Sometime I will have to blog about them--it's pure comedy, 24/7. He's got Alzheimer's and she's senile. :P
Also must blog about the priceless Target restroom incident involving a wee child named Simon and proper waste disposal. But that too is for another evening.
Laptop doesn't recognize my card reader, and I don't have my camera USB cable with me, so can't post any Northwest pix tonight. Will be home Monday so will be very eager to do so at that particular point in time. You will all enjoy much goodness. :D
xoxo mwah, luv Sulky

Back "home"
09.25.03 (5:17 pm) [edit]
Hey, folks. Before I get this entry off the ground, I just want you to have a look at this:
[image]Sulkbrarian_591971 657.jpg[/image]
Now. Tell me that isn't pukeworthy cute. :D It's my DJ and me. Having a wonderful day, together. So you can now well imagine that as elated and thrilled as I was to be in Seattle, that's how dejected and sad I am to be..."home". It's not really my home anymore. I guess it hasn't really been for a long time, and now I know where my home actually is. I've been living a long time thinking of this place as my "home", but it's not. My home is elsewhere, now.
I miss everything about it. I miss it so much it hurts. And I was only there eight days. I can't imagine what it would be like to live there a lifetime, as my DJ has, and have to go somewhere else and miss it. I guess it would kill a person.
It's one thing to take a trip and visit somewhere. But you always know you're coming back home to someplace wonderful. So if you had to go home to someplace awful, you would want to stay gone all the time. Like I do, now.
So the only thing I can do is work as hard as I can to get back there as soon as possible, as hard as I can so I can stay there. Before I go stark raving mad. Wait...how could we tell?
Anyway. I just thought you should have a peek at the fun to come, and I hope my stories about this trip aren't getting old. I haven't even really started yet! And to let DJ know the camera and disc got here fine and all the pix are now safely on my computer and burned to a CD. :) Whew!!!
xoxo Sulky :P

When we're alone, dear...
09.24.03 (12:21 am) [edit]
...just me and you...la la la...mmmmmmmmmm tasty Yo La Tengo goodness tonight at the Blue Note. Sigh. :) Sulky happy good time now. :D The Aislers Set were also happy good fun. Yay. My DJ would have liked and went yay too...sigh...
Tuesday, the one that just passed, just now, was my DJ's birfday. He was this many. I sent him lots of nice candy and funny pictures and books. He liked. :P
I wish I could have been there. For the spanking part. And the singing part. :( But he is having happy good time too! At party! For birfday boy--weee!
Also I am just a little tipsy. So. You see I cannot write good English words.
Cher. Very entertaining. Surprisingly so. Sister peed herself she had so much happy good fun, so that was very nice. I liked watching the gay boys.
Is it wrong to like the gay boys? No. It is not. Shut up, JY.
I don't have a job. Yet. But. I will. So there. Neener neener neeeeeeeeeeeeenerrrrrrrrr ........
I go to sleep now and dream about YLT and DJ and funny things. Ni ni. :)
Heart, Sulky

Discombobulation
09.20.03 (9:33 pm) [edit]
Which is such a great word for describing what I've been feeling since I've been back in Tiger country. Like I belong elsewhere and I'm supposed to be there but somehow, by accident maybe, I messed up and got on a plane and left the place I belong in and came back here to...what, exactly? I mean, I'm having a good time with family (well sorta; traveling with Mom is usually good for a few intestinal knots), but...it's just not Seattle, and they're just not my DJ, you know? Yeah. I knew you would understand. That's why I'm telling you. :D
Although I am back in barbecue land. Or, barbeque land. And Minsky's land.
At any rate, I will soon have seven applications in to various public libraries in Washington and Oregon. Thanks to everyone who's pulling for me and finding me job leads; I really appreciate your thinking of me. Let's all cross our fingers that something works out in that area, because man, I gotta have some more of this.
More later. I swear on Morris and Mesha. :P

"One beer, one night."
09.20.03 (12:27 am) [edit]
Or was it, "One night, one beer?" I forget. Anyway, that bit of wisdom comes to us from "Dennis" (not Tini Biggs bartender Dennis but Beer Market guru Dennis--do you sense a theme? Must all alcohol connections be named Dennis?). Dennis was kind enough to impart this simple philosophy to these Bud-swilling nimrods in his incredibly diverse liquor store one evening. DJ and I witnessed said nimrods trying to comprehend this piece of advice, apparently to no avail. Having eavesdropped on this sterling advice, we then took it to heart, even though it was not directed at us. And, well, YOU know...sometimes ya have more than just the one. But it's a damn good one!!!
The point, and yes I do have one, is don't just stand there and buy a case of crappy beer to drink and pee out in short order; instead, grab yourself one or two exceptional ones and drink for taste.
There will be more later about the beer, particularly about the microbrews. But. Meanwhile. Won't you enjoy this lovely recipe for duck, a major ingredient for which is the fantastic 10.5% alcohol content Piraat Ale that Dennis recommended to the boy and me? Won't you??? Haarrrrr!! Piraaaaaaaaaaaaaat!!! Hey. Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day, peeps. Okay, really. Good night for really real now. I swear. :P

Dogs. Water. Coffee.
09.19.03 (10:56 pm) [edit]
Trees. Air. Rocks. Pretties!! More pretties!!!! Ta-daaa!!!!!!!!! Go for walkies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Crazy, insane, fucking beautiful beauty. Friendliest dogs in the world. Trees everywhere. You can't imagine that they could all be cut down; there's simply too many. Even the foothills are gorgeous...let alone the mountains.
The water is...indescribable. You can't understand why it should taste so good, be so pure, in a country so lax about the cleanliness and drinkability of its' water supply. And this is before you even taste mountain spring water that comes RIGHT OUT OF THE GROUND AND INTO YOUR SIPPY CUP. I'm just talking about plain old ordinary city tap water, folks. It's to die for...
...and probably due in part to the impossibly pure air. You don't breathe it, you gulp it. It gets into your nooks and crannies and you can almost feel it cleansing you of toxins and purifying your lungs. It's got to be full of happy fun drugs; how else could it make you feel so giddy???
Actually, I shouldn't even be telling any of this. Particularly on a public blog. Because the locals (def: people who have lived there for more than two seconds) are becoming somewhat dismayed at the immense influx of newcomers to their fair city. They kind of like to keep it a secret so it doesn't become something other than what it is, which is a friendly, diverse, mostly peaceful, highly individual city of neighborhoods. So I'm telling you all this, but you have to promise to keep it under your hats!
That sort of encapsulates, for the moment, my recent foray into the Pacific Northwest, most specifically Seattle and other points nearby, with the best tour guide in the world, my DJ.
I will write more, so so much more, and I want to do it NOW but I have to go to sleep because tomorrow is an art fair.
But. You should know. This, friends, is the nectar of the gods. They, too, must have sold their souls to the devil...for how else could this simple concoction (spiked with, says my DJ, nothing fancier than Hershey's Syrup) taste so incredibly, mind-blowingly delicious??? I ask you!!!
Anyway. More later. G'night. :)

To my St. Louis and Columbia girls--I loves ya; have been freakin' out applying for myriad jobs this week (yay? yay we hope??) so I messed up and didn't write y'all yet...but I will when I get to Seattle. I'll be in your neck of the woods after the 16th! Weee!

Morning has broken; JY has spoken...
09.07.03 (12:11 pm) [edit]
Behold, faithful readers! Here's what O/C tBlogger and right-wing martinet/drone James Yerian thinks of your friendly local children's librarian:
"Whoa...Sulky, I used to think you were a misguided youth, faithfully clutching to stupid ideas, but then I read your profile and read your blog, and discovered that you are a misguided adult, faithfully clutching to stupid ideas and, worse, not likely to change them. Oh well, I had to let you know. Cheers, James"
Isn't that fantastic? You know you're doing something right when people like this flee in terror from your vicinity. Yay! I'm diametrically opposed to JY!!! :D
Please allow me to reply thusly (one picture being worth a thousand words):
[image]Sulkbrarian_227210 361.jpg[/image]
I guess he thought I'd break down in tears of gratitude and shame or something...dunno...:P I'm assuming from this, then, that loving librarianship, freedom of speech, and squirrels is misguided and stupid...? Wow, didn't know that! So, I guess having a sense of humor would be grounds for capital punishment, then, in JY's wee world...
James, chill out and scroll down for some sock monkey porn and it will all be better, mmkay? Relax, you big doorknob.
Dat's all I gots to say about dat.

How cool is that? Thank you, sir! It looks like you used the glass effect, amongst others, and I like that glass effect. Looks like the shower door! Purty! Just as soon as I get me one o' dem Cafepress vanity shops for fling fling!, you'll get a cut of the t-shirts! (Now lessee, who's gonna want Sulky gear...hm...me, DJ...uh...well, it should be enough to cover a cup of Tully's, anyhow!) :P
Yet more props to MisterNiceGuy, and my friend Micaela, who have given me lotsa help with my header recently; which help I am going to soon apply to the afflicted region of my blog. You rule as well!
Listening to a smattering combo of Cat Power and Low. It's a lo-fi kinda day, friends! :)

09.04.03 (11:53 pm) [edit]
Then you'll certainly enjoy this.
A caveat, if you please. If beautiful, natural sock monkey love somehow offends your delicate sensibilities, do not click.
However, if nothing arouses you more than the love that dare not speak its' name (damn you, society!!! why can't we all just get along??!?), the erotic vision of consenting sock monkeys enjoying themselves in the privacy of their own homes, why, by all means: have at it.
Cue the 70's wah-wah pedal...cue the shaky camera...voila! Sock monkeys be doin' it fo' demselves!!!

[image]Sulkbrarian_775500 700.gif[/image]
What up. Yes, I am still alive. :) Thank you for caring.
First off, can anyone assist me with my header, please? What is the definitive pixel sizing? I have sized and resized, no dice. Grr!!
Secondly, or, "B.", thanks to whomever fixed the right sidebar for me. I didn't care for that blue; this is better. :)
On to business:
I didn't get the one job I wanted. I had applied for and been interviewed for this darling library job in the Great Plains. I don't know why I didn't get it. There were only three interviewees and no internal candidates. Wow, did THAT ever sound conceited--sorry, I just always have to look at stuff like I am going to get it in order to keep my hopes up. I wrote human resources to ask if there were any improvements I might make to my interviewing style or resume or what have you; haven't heard back. Not happy. They were eating me up, or so it appeared!
Only thing was, it was nowhere near my DJ which would have sucked rhinoceros. So. There you are. The fight continues! :P
Getting ready for Seattle odyssey; not been in much of a posting mood. Commenting mood, always.
Have new batch of jobs to apply for. If nothing pans out there, I know I will have to look for some other job as a stopgap. If I'm going to resign myself temporarily to non-library work, I would be likely to get myself to the Pacific Northwest. That way I will at least be properly geographically located...and can continue library hunting.
[image]Sulkbrarian_813005 978.gif[/image]
Yes, that is a dancing banana holding a sign that says "poop". Got a problem wit dat? ;)
It has been raining like a sonofabitch. Good, we need it. My herb garden is completely out of control and delicious.
After Seattle, meeting Mom and Sis in St. Louis to visit a liberry-skool pal (Micaela). Then off to beautiful Columbia MO for microbrews with Connie. Hope to see Sarah and Amanda too!! :D
Then it's off to Kansas City for art crawling and an art festival and good and great BBQ and Sis wants to see Cher at Kemper Arena. There are a couple of library conferences this month that I had been thinking of attending but decided to deep-six that idea for now. There will certainly be more!! :P
Folks, this is what the unemployed do in the summer. Hang with family. Am I feeling like a giant tard? You bet. :( But it will be nice. :)
Later peeps, don't go changin'. xoxo Sulky :P
